Along Europe's Scenic "Yellow Roads"

A château, a 1,000-year-old village and the magic of Paris... inexorably entwined like the woven threads of medieval tapestries... your travels in northern France honor timeless traditions, share stories of valor and courage, and celebrate landscapes so beautiful they are immortalized by artists and poets...

Your accommodations are unique, including two nights at Château de Rochecotte – called "home" in the 1700s by Prince Tallyrand and the Duchess of Dino. At Château de Champchevrier, owned by the same family since the 1720s, Le Baron personally welcomes Tauck guests during a private reception and dinner that includes a hunting hounds demonstration in full regalia. Formal gardens inspire awe during your visit to Château de Villandry, and the Apocalypse and Bayeux tapestries mesmerize at Château d'Angers and Château Josselin near the Brittany Coast. Visit Normandy's poignant D-Day beaches, magnificent Mont-St-Michel, Monet's beloved Giverny and Chartres Cathedral. In Paris, Notre Dame Cathedral entices with Gothic wonders; explore Musée d'Orsay along with Paris' landmark sites; and bid Paris adieu with a farewell dinner at the iconic restaurant Fouquet's. Leisure time in Paris

Day 10, 11 or 12

Enjoy time to explore Paris as you please

Two excellent choices for free time in Paris: The world's most visited museum, Musée du Louvre houses 35,000 works of art, dating from prehistoric days to contemporary times; eight million people flock here each year excited to see masterpieces like Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory, the Venus de Milo and others. And prepare to be dazzled when you go on a self-guided visit inside King Louis XIV's opulent Château de Versailles.

Hunting hounds in the Loire Valley

Day 2

Join Le Baron for a private evening with a hunting hound demonstration at Château de Champchevrier

In the Loire Valley about 25 miles west of Tours stands the Château de Champchevrier. Built in the 16th century on the foundations of an ancient fortress by the Daillon family, the Renaissance castle was expanded about a century later. In the 1720s, the château and its park-like grounds were purchased by Jean-Baptiste de la Rue du Can, Baron Champchevrier, and is the family home of his descendants to this day. On your Tauck evening at Champchevrier, you'll meet the current Le Baron and his family for a private reception, dinner, and a colorful hunting hound demonstration in full regalia that you won't soon forget!

Normandy's D-Day beaches

Day 9

Spend a poignant day exploring the Normandy beaches and other D-Day sites with a local guide

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces invading Occupied Europe landed on a number of now-famous beaches along the Normandy coast – code-named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword – etching the history of that day into the sands of time. On your visit to Normandy with Tauck, our World War II expert relates the many poignant stories of "D-Day" at Pointe du Hoc, and the now-quiet Omaha Beach, where American assault units took heavy casualties in establishing a beachhead. Walk along the beaches; view a private World War II memorabilia collection and a hands-on exhibit honoring the troops who fought here; and visit the poignant Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial... final resting place of more than 9,000 US troops.

Loire Valley is beautiful and France is much more rural than we had expected. We loved Brittany and the stay at the Miramar Hotel.
